ABOUT PERU
Land of Hidden Treasures
Peru is one of the most diverse countries in the world. It is a multicultural country, full of traditions, award-winning cuisine, and vast natural reserves. It has 12 UNESCO World Heritage Sites and 84 of the 117 natural zones in the world. Peru is located in the western part of South America and shares borders with Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia, and Chile.
Traveling to Peru means delving into 5,000 years of living history, and the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu represents just a fragment of its extensive history. There are many sites that serve as reliable proof of the genius enjoyed by ancient civilizations. In addition to Machu Picchu, we have the pre-Columbian ruins of Chan Chan, the most extensive in the Americas; the enigmatic geoglyphs carved into the ground of Nazca, visible from the air; or the Kuelap fortress, surrounded by nature.
Another fundamental pillar of Peruvian identity is its renowned cuisine, having been named the World’s Best Culinary Destination on several occasions by the World Travel Awards (WTA). The geographic and cultural diversity contributes to the diversity of ingredients (from highland tubers to tropical fruits) in the cuisine influenced by Spanish, indigenous, African, and Asian cultures, and this mixed cuisine is a source of national pride.
In addition to its rich history, culture, and cuisine, Peru offers diverse landscapes, climates, and settings that make it possible to enjoy a wide variety of adventure, cultural, nature, and relaxation activities, making it a paradise for travelers seeking unique experiences. The usual adventure sports (rafting, paragliding, zip-lining, and mountain biking) are combined with spotting scarlet macaws in the Amazon, or watching the sunset over the ruins of an ancient civilization.
